Formed in 2005 by Civil Engineers Sammy Powell and Denny Meier, Odd Man Out quickly made a name for itself with a unique blend of camaraderie and passion for music. Joined by the dynamic Travis Riker on lead vocals, the band's name reflects Travis's non-engineering background, adding a distinctive twist to their identity.
The current lineup features Sammy's rhythmic guitar, Denny's powerful drumming, Jeff Duggins on bass guitar, and Kyle Smith's lead guitar brilliance. Together, they deliver fiery blues and classic rock renditions from the '60s to the '90s, with just enough contemporary hits to keep every performance fresh and exciting.
Odd Man Out is a staple in Metro Atlanta's music scene, while also lighting up stages from Jacksonville, Chicago, and Pensacola. Perfect for birthday bashes, wedding receptions, or any celebration — their vibrant performances guarantee an unforgettable experience.
An Indiana native who moved to Atlanta in 2000, Travis grew up surrounded by music — his mother a singer and pianist, his father a longtime lead singer. He stepped up as Odd Man Out's frontman in 2007 while continuing to play drums, making him the original "Odd Man" in the group. His influences range from Led Zeppelin to Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. In 2019, he recorded three songs in Nashville, available on Spotify and iTunes.
A founding member and co-creator of Odd Man Out's signature sound, Sammy is the band's musical architect — charting songs and adapting them to fit the band's unique style. His versatility across genres and his lifelong dedication to the craft make him the rock-solid rhythmic backbone of every performance.
The heartbeat of Odd Man Out since day one, Denny's powerful and precise drumming keeps the band in perfect sync and the crowd on their feet. A founding member alongside Sammy, his energetic performances and impeccable timing give the band its driving pulse across every classic rock anthem and blues jam.
Born in East Tennessee, Jeff began on piano at age five before finding his true calling on bass guitar in college. Beyond Odd Man Out, he plays with Kyle in Six Strings South, serves as bassist for the Blue Notes jazz big-band, and plays regularly at Smyrna First UMC. His wife Kim is the music director there; their son Andrew is a Band Director in Madison, GA.
A Pennsylvania native and long-time Atlanta resident, Kyle is a gifted multi-instrumentalist with over 40 years of experience in guitar, keyboard, and vocals. He started playing on stage at 13 and co-founded Six Strings South, bringing a deep love of 50s and 60s Doo-Wop alongside contemporary hits. His wife Gen is a fixture at nearly every gig, keeping the band on point.
